Some projects leave a lasting impression—not just because of what was built, but because of how it all came together. This one goes back a bit, but it still stands out as a milestone in creative, regional storytelling.

A Soaring Start

The destination: Changepoint Church in Anchorage, Alaska.

The challenge: design a children’s environment that didn’t just entertain—it had to belong to Alaska.

To kick things off, the Wacky World Studios team took to the skies for a special aerial tour of the surrounding landscape. This wasn’t just for fun. It was a way to absorb the true scale and texture of the region and let that sense of place drive the entire creative process.

Wildlife, Meet Wild Ideas

That flight led to a flood of wild inspiration. The space came alive with custom-designed 2D and 3D characters—puffins mid-flap, seals sliding into view, bears on the move, moose in their element, and yes, even oversized mosquitoes buzzing through the space. Each figure was sculpted and positioned to feel playful, dynamic, and unmistakably local.

Anchored in Play

At the heart of the space was a full-scale fishing boat, built for climbing, crawling, and sparking the kind of imagination only Alaska could fuel. Around it, sculpted boulders and trees added natural texture, while nearby, a hallway-spanning log tunnel invited kids to explore like they were deep in the woods.

From Floor to Skyline

The walls and floors were transformed with custom artwork and graphics. Bold murals wrapped every surface, telling visual stories of the local environment. Floor graphics added surprise and movement underfoot, while one major highlight—a glowing, layered cityscape of Anchorage—brought everything together with a sense of civic pride and artistic punch.

Still a Standout

Even years later, this space remains a prime example of how thoughtful design and storytelling can elevate a children’s ministry environment. It wasn’t just about creating a fun space—it was about creating the right space, one that felt authentic to its setting and unforgettable to everyone who walked through.

This one may be a throwback, but it still inspires everything that’s being built today.
